Answers from Discord — community rules clarifications from the official Eldfall Chronicles Discord. Answers by meksmaks (Community Manager / Rules Expert) and bubalosoldier (Frostpeak Publishing), Feb–Jun 2026.

These are community clarifications, not official errata. Always check the latest rulebook first.

Q: How many lines do you need to draw to establish Line of Sight?

A (meksmaks, Jun 24, 2026): You only need to draw 1 line to be considered as having LoS. The player commanding the attacking model chooses which line to draw. If you can also draw a line that passes through terrain/obstruction, apply its Cover effect accordingly.

Q: Can a model use another model (friend or foe) as Cover?

A (meksmaks, Jun 24, 2026): Models can block off LoS to one another, but they do not provide Cover per se. The Cover section begins with 'a piece of scenery' — Cover requires terrain, not models.

Q: If a model's Hitbox is only partially visible, does it have Cover?

A (meksmaks, Jun 24, 2026): If any player can draw a line between attacker and target that passes through terrain (wider and taller than the target) and the target is within 1" of that terrain, the target has Heavy Cover.

Q: Which models cannot benefit from Cover at all?

A (meksmaks, Jun 24, 2026): Models larger than Size: Large cannot get Cover.

Q: Do Cover and Haze Bombs stack?

A (meksmaks, May 17, 2026): Yes — Cover and Haze Bombs stack.

Q: Do the modifiers from Haze and Cover stack with each other?

A (meksmaks, May 17, 2026): Yes, they stack.

Q: Can Haze Bombs be used in Reaction to target friendly models?

A (meksmaks, Mar 15, 2026): Yes — in Reaction it becomes an Assist. You can target your own models within range, but they must end up fully under the template.

Q: Does placing a Haze Bomb template require a successful ACC roll?

A (meksmaks, Mar 15, 2026): Yes. In the Active Role it is a Targetless action, but it is still an Attack/Assist requiring an ACC roll (plus any Reroll).

Q: What does 'unmodified STK 1' mean — can it be boosted by other effects?

A (meksmaks, May 06–17, 2026): To perform an unmodified STK 1 means you cannot modify the STK value at all. In the 1.6 ruleset, hard caps on STK — such as those from Crouched, Dash, or Flying — are intended to be unmodifiable.

Q: Can you use Attack of Opportunity against a Stealth model that begins its activation outside your LoS?

A (meksmaks, Feb 02, 2026): You need LoS to target — Stealth I voids even Clairvoyance. With no LoS, no Reaction is possible. If you gain LoS during movement: Dodge is always possible; Attack of Opportunity requires both LoS and RCH met simultaneously during the Movement Step; a normal reactive Attack requires LoS to declare and RCH + LoS met during Resolution.

Q: Does a Shrouded model immediately reveal when it declares an Attack?

A (meksmaks / Dockel, Mar 19, 2026): Yes — when a Shrouded model declares an Attack, it reveals itself instantly. Exception: if the target has Vigilance, the Vigilant model can still declare a Reaction.

Q: Does Perceive only work within Awareness range?

A (meksmaks, Mar 19, 2026): Yes — Perceive only works within the model's Awareness.

Q: How can a model willingly enter the Crouched state other than by declaring Dodge?

A (meksmaks, Mar 07, 2026): A model may also enter or cancel the Crouched state at the start or end of its Movement Step during its own Activation (Rulebook 1.6, p.41).

Q: Does Vigilance let a Sentinel use full STK on reactive ranged shots?

A (meksmaks, Mar 07, 2026): Yes. Vigilance grants 360° Front arc and immunity to Surprise Attack, and the model keeps its full STK on reactive shots. The best counter is to Engage it in melee first, preventing ranged attacks and limiting LoS to Awareness.

Q: Does an Unarmed attack or a Melee-type Spell (e.g. Flare) create an Engagement zone?

A (meksmaks, Apr 28, 2026): No. You need a Melee Weapon to Engage — even a Dagger qualifies. Unarmed is a specific attack, not a Weapon. Similarly, Flare (a Melee Attack Spell) is not a Weapon and cannot create an Engagement zone.

Q: Can an Incapacitated model still be Engaged?

A (meksmaks, Feb 14, 2026): Yes — an Incapacitated model can still be Engaged. It just cannot act itself. The Reroll of the Recovery Roll is prohibited if either the Incapacitated model or another allied model in Base-to-Base contact is Engaged.

Q: Can Protector void an attack by placing itself behind a wall with no LoS?

A (meksmaks, May 10, 2026): No — Protector cannot void an attack. If the attack was viable against the initial target, treat it as viable against the Protector regardless of its position. All modifiers (Cover, RCH, etc.) are calculated from the Protector's actual position.

Q: Does the Protector's movement count toward triggering Engagement zones, and can it move through walls?

A (meksmaks, May 10, 2026): Protector doesn't Declare Movement — it appears in a legal spot next to the protected model. The ½ SPD limit includes vertical distance. We intend to clarify in a future FAQ that Protector cannot teleport through walls.

Q: Does Cover benefit the Protector after it steps in front of an attack?

A (meksmaks, May 10, 2026): Yes — all modifiers (including Cover) apply based on the Protector's actual position, to reward smart positioning.

Q: Is the movement after a successful Dodge mandatory?

A (meksmaks, Feb 2026): No — Rulebook 1.6, p.57 states the model 'can' move at the end of the Resolution Step. The movement is optional.

Q: Does Chain Attack trigger on Ranged Attacks and Spells?

A (meksmaks, Jun 17, 2026): Yes. Spells are not a separate attack category — they are a tool that can be Melee or Ranged, just like Weapons. Chain Attack triggers on any successful Hit by another friendly model, regardless of attack type.

Q: As the Reactive player, does Fencing I (−3 modifier) apply even with no Activation Tokens left?

A (Dockel, Feb 2026): No — to use a Combat Art you must target an enemy model, which requires spending an Activation Token.

Q: If Nightshade uses Mastery of Poisons then Cunning Precaution (Assassination II), does she gain Poison I or Poison II?

A (meksmaks, Feb 2026): She gains Poison II. Mastery of Poisons upgrades any Poison I to Poison II, even if gained during that same turn.

Q: Does Chiyohime's Profane Mend stratagem revive a Dead model?

A (meksmaks, May 17, 2026): Yes — this case slipped through the rules. The FAQ will clarify that Profane Mend also cancels the Dead state when it grants 1 HP.

Q: How does Misfortune work — once per die or once per roll? What if a failed die is rerolled into a success?

A (meksmaks, Feb 01, 2026): Misfortune rerolls every successful die once. If you reroll a failed die into a success with another ability, Misfortune still procs and you must reroll that newly-successful die. You may only reroll once per die due to Misfortune, but there is no cap on total dice rerolled.

Q: Does the Warrior class provide any bonus on the model's own Active turn attacks?

A (meksmaks, May 17, 2026): No — Warrior has no positive effect on Active turn attacks. In Active Role, the Great Guard (for example) can have STK 2 on Polearm and STK 3 on other weapons via Second Wind (Fencing III).

Q: When placing an AoE template, what happens if you cannot fully cover the main target?

A (meksmaks, Mar 30, 2026): You cannot perform the attack — analogous to a target being out of RCH. The template must fully cover the main target.

Q: When casting a Targetless AoE in Reaction, does the template need to be centred on the target?

A (meksmaks, Apr 01, 2026): You cannot use Targetless in Reaction. However, AoEs can still be positioned in Reaction — the template needs to fully cover the target (or as much as possible).

Q: Do AoE attacks apply the standard −4 Friendly Fire modifier and the 17–20 target-switch?

A (meksmaks, Apr 02, 2026): AoEs are exempt from the stackable −4 modifier and the 17–20 Friendly Fire rule. However, all Hits that can deal damage (including melee Sweeps) still trigger Friendly Fire rolls. Exception: spells that cannot damage friendly models (e.g. Blinding Light) are fully exempt.

Q: If a healing spell with STK 2 (e.g. A Second Chance, Hastened Recovery) targets the same model twice, does it apply the effect twice?

A (meksmaks, Apr 28, 2026): No. You cannot apply Attack Roll logic to an Assist-type spell. Splitting STK on different targets is fine, but targeting the same model twice does not double the healing.

Q: Does Chain Attack trigger on Spells?

A (meksmaks, Jun 17, 2026): Yes — Spells are not a separate category. They are a tool that can be Melee or Ranged, just like Weapons. Chain Attack triggers on any successful Hit by another friendly model.

Q: Can a Protector on elevated terrain intercept an attack on an ally at a different height?

A (meksmaks, Jun 17, 2026): Yes — Protector requires being within ½ SPD, including vertically. Otherwise it functions as normal.

Q: With Blinding Light (STK 2 Targetless), can you place two templates in two different spots?

A (meksmaks, Feb 25, 2026): Yes — STK 2 in the Active Phase means you can place two separate templates in completely different spots.

Q: Does the Quest end immediately if all of a player's models are Incapacitated at the start of their turn?

A (bubalosoldier, Apr 17, 2026): Yes — this rule is still valid as written. It is under review, but remains in place until the next rules update.

Q: Does starting your activation already in Base-to-Base contact count as 'coming to base contact'?

A (bubalosoldier, Apr 17, 2026): Yes — starting your activation already in contact counts for effects that trigger on 'come to base contact' (e.g. Agony, Treasure Hunt).

Q: Which is the most accurate source — Guildhall or the online rulebook?

A (meksmaks, Apr 24, 2026): Guildhall is still undergoing updates. The 1.6 online rulebook is the best source of knowledge until Guildhall is fully updated.

Q: Do Hostiles in Skirmish perform Recovery Rolls? Can you pick up an Intrigue while Engaged?

A (meksmaks, May 08, 2026): 1. Hostiles follow the same rules as player models — unless the scenario forbids it, they can attempt Recovery Rolls. 2. If it is not forbidden, it is allowed.
