Engaged is a game term in Eldfall Chronicles.

During the Movement Step when in the Active Role, an Engaged activated model may only declare Idle or Walk. However, if it declares Walk, it can only move directly towards the enemy model that is causing the Engaged State. If a model is Engaged by more than one model, it must choose one of the enemy models causing the Engaged State when declaring the Walk Action and it must move directly towards that enemy model. While Engaged, a model may declare only Melee Attack, Assist (targeting itself) or Dodge. A model ceases to be Engaged when it leaves the melee weapon reach of the enemy model, Disengages with a Dodge, or by rendering the enemy model into the Incapacitated, Petrified, Crouched or Dead State. While a model is Engaged, it automatically has LoS to all enemy models that are causing it to be Engaged, but cannot react against models outside of its Awareness.
A model is Engaged when an enemy model with a Melee Weapon is in its Engagement range. An Engaged model may only declare Idle or Walk (no Run or free movement away from the engager).

Q: Does an Unarmed attack or a Melee-type Spell (e.g. Flare) create an Engagement zone?

A (meksmaks, Apr 28, 2026): No. You need a Melee Weapon to Engage — even a Dagger qualifies. Unarmed is a specific attack, not a Weapon. Similarly, Flare (a Melee Attack Spell) is not a Weapon and cannot create an Engagement zone.

Q: Can an Incapacitated model still be Engaged?

A (meksmaks, Feb 14, 2026): Yes — an Incapacitated model can still be Engaged. It just cannot act itself. The Reroll of the Recovery Roll is prohibited if either the Incapacitated model or another allied model in Base-to-Base contact is Engaged.

Q: Does holding a Ranged Weapon in hand remove your Engagement zone even if you also carry a sword?

A (deokel, Mar 2026): Yes — when you declare a Ranged Attack, you're holding the Ranged Weapon and have no passive Engagement zone, even if you also own a Melee Weapon. Engagement requires a Melee Weapon to be in hand.

Q: Do two casters in Base-to-Base contact Engage each other if neither has a Melee Weapon?

A (deokel, Apr 28, 2026): No. Only models with a Melee Weapon equipped can Engage. Two models with only spells and accessories (no melee weapons) in Base-to-Base contact are not Engaged — unless their accessory explicitly states it can Engage (like Chanra's staff).
